Diwali & Economics

The most important day of Diwali was yesterday, on which Hindus do Laxmi Puja. As you all know, Laxmi is the Goddess of wealth.
There is nothing wrong with being wealthy, so long as wealth is earned by honesty and hard work, and once Laxmi makes you wealthy, you get windfall gains if you don’t misuse the wealth.
Economics is the art of managing wealth judiciously. If you gain wealth it should neither be flaunted, nor should you become a miser.
If you mismanage wealth, whether it is countries, companies or individuals, Goddess Laxmi can bring you down to your knees in no time.
Recent examples of these downfalls are the USA, currently Europe and a company called Kingfisher Airlines, owned by a very rich and arrogant businessman called Vijay Mallya.
