Three days back, the Indian Army placed a big order of Rs.1400 crores on an Indian company for delivering heavy artillery guns, similar to, or better than Bofors.
This, after field trials were successful. Earlier, Generals in the Army used to reject Indian made weapons, after testing them for 25 years, by which time they would become obsolete.
This has come after the ex-IAF Chief, S.P. Tyagi, has been questioned for Ausgusta Westland deal, in which his 2 cousin brothers were involved.
This proves my point that instead of India being one of the largest importers of arms, because they are big deals involving big kickbacks, India can become self-sufficient or even a large exporter of arms.
